Despite being recruited by multiple Big Ten Conference basketball programs, she chose to focus on volleyball after a challenging open gym practice with the Illinois Fighting Illini women’s basketball team.

In October 2014, as a sophomore, Rettke verbally committed to joining the Wisconsin Badgers women’s volleyball team. As a senior in high school, she was named Illinois Player of the Year and earned several All-American honors, including USA Today first team and AVCA second team.

College career

Rettke began her studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2017, majoring in business marketing. At 203 cm (6 ft 8 in), she was the tallest player on the team.

During her freshman year, she started all 32 matches, playing in 113 sets, and achieved impressive averages of 4.39 points, 3.42 kills, 1.37 blocks, and 0.22 service aces per set. This performance earned her All-Big Ten and first-team AVCA All-American honors.

In her sophomore season in 2018, Rettke continued her strong performance, starting all 32 matches and playing in 117 sets, averaging 3.74 kills and 1.54 blocks per set. She again received All-Big Ten and AVCA All-American first-team honors.

Rettke’s junior year in 2019 saw her play in 32 of 34 matches, with 30 starts, despite missing two matches due to a foot injury. She led her team with 3.75 kills per set, the fifth-best in the Big Ten, and helped the Badgers reach the Elite

International career

Rettke also represented the U.S. on the international stage. In 2018, she was part of the USA Volleyball Collegiate National Team.
