Lincoln, NE Harper Murray, a standout player for Nebraska volleyball, pleaded no contest to a DUI charge on Monday.
As a result, her sentencing is set for July 22. The 19-year-old athlete faces a mandatory minimum sentence of seven days in jail and a $500 fine, with the possibility of up to 60 days in jail.
The charges stem from an incident on April 5. According to Lincoln Police, officers stopped Murray’s Audi SUV on Vine Street just after 12:45 a.m. for multiple traffic violations.
A breath test revealed her blood alcohol concentration was 0.169, more than twice the legal limit. In addition to driving under the influence, Murray was found in possession of a fake ID and reportedly did not comply with several police directives.
As part of her plea deal, two other charges—careless driving and possession of a fake ID—were dropped.
Following the DUI citation, Murray was suspended and did not participate in the volleyball spring match. In a separate incident, she was charged on June 18 with shoplifting goods valued under $500, a misdemeanor. Her arraignment for this charge is scheduled for Wednesday.
In May, Murray posted an apology on Instagram, expressing regret for her recent decisions.
